The television's blaring
People laughing
Corn and chicken being barbecued
Friends and relatives rekindled

Everyone's smiling
More laughter
The television's forgotten
Until.........

"10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!"

Sprays of cold water began!
Fireworks ignited!
Hugs and kisses went round!
Smiles and laughter continued...

All this happened only TWICE a year;
During the closing of the past,
And the opening of the future...
Which happen to ALWAYS be side by side
attached by the present...

And this is how we celebrate the closing and the beginning...
